Natural Stone & the Environment

Using natural stone is environmentally friendly for many reasons. It comes from the earth and nothing needs to be added to it. It doesn’t need to be manufactured and only requires a small amount of energy to be quarried and processed. The following myths have been circulated about granite being harmful to our environment

Granite contains pollutants	Natural stone does not contain pollutants. (more info)
Granite emits dangerous levels of radon gas.	Granite is a safe product and the amount of radon gas emitted by a granite countertop is less than one millionth of that already present in the household air from other sources. (more info)

Options for Building Green

Granite: We have done research on granites that are found in Wisconsin and Minnesota and have samples of four granites quarried in Wisconsin and five that are quarried in Minnesota.
